This symbol highlights four steps toward growth we must take to be effective. - Our Model

To live a life of worship we must go to the people of the world and...

Win them to Christ

Teach them to ... Grow in Christ

Equip them to... Serve Christ

Send them to...Share Christ

Each of these four steps towards growth has a corresponding class to assist followers of Christ to take that step in their life:

Step #1:Class 101 "Connecting to Cornerstone" is for all who are new to Cornerstone Church. During this class attendees are introduced to Christ and our church through an explanation of who we are, what we are, why we are, and where we are going. This class is taught by Pastor Brad Sutter. Our next 101 class will be Sunday April 25th, 2010 5:00pm-8:00pm

Step #2: Class 201 "Growing with Cornerstone" looks at the daily habits that will help followers of Christ live a life that honors God. These habits include prayer, Bible study, stewardship, fellowship and fasting. Class 101 is a prerequisite to this class. Our next class 201 class will be Sunday May 2nd, 2010 5:00pm-8:00pm

Step #3: "Serving at Cornerstone" equips followers of Christ by helping them discover their spiritual gift, and assists them in finding a place where they can use their gift for God's glory. Class 201 is a prerequisite for this class.

Step #4: Class 401 "Sharing Christ" teaches a follower of Christ how to share Him with their lives and their lips. Class 301 is a prerequisite for this class.

Pastor Brian is originally from St. Louis Missouri, and with his wife Rochelle, have served in Youth and College Ministry together for 15 years. They believe whole heartedly that they are a team in ministry together. The Lord has brought them back to Alaska for their second time. They led youth ministry for military teens for a couple years and then served at a Christian College in Kansas for a number of years working with college students as well as teens in the local church. Brian is the Youth Pastor at Cornerstone Church, and honored to be were the Lord has him. Together they have a five year old daughter named Deanna who is the life of the party and enjoys hanging out with teens as well. Brian, Rochelle, and Deanna enjoy sports a lot, whether it's baseball, football, or basketball. They also enjoy getting out and camping, hiking, and bike riding. They enjoy having people in their home and spending life with others. They have a desire to share the love of Christ with the teenagers they have an opportunity to minister to and spend time with. The Wissehr’s enjoy spending time with teens, and their parents, having fun, and spending quality family time together.

Does this sound familiar? You've been going to church for a while now, but there seems to be something missing. You meet new people but the conversation never seems to go beyond the weather, your work or your kids. There's got to be more—and there is! Life Groups are the place where you will find friends to share life with, encourage one another and grow together.

We will be kicking off our winter semester of Life Groups on January 24th, 2010. There will be a variety of groups that will be meeting throughout the week in various locations. The Life Group Ministry is one of our core ministries here at Cornerstone as we seek to fulfill the mission Jesus gave us to "make disciples". Are you feeling the tug of God's calling on your life? Consider the words of Jeremiah:

"But if I say, 'I will not mention him or speak any more in his name,' his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot" (Jer. 20:9).

Leading a life group requires love, sacrifice, study and commitment but if you are sensing a call to see lives changed and God glorified, we would encourage you to lead a small group.

If you are a member of Cornerstone Church and would like to lead a life group please call Darron Rizer at 644-8701 who will give you further instructions on how to get your life group started.

Life Groups for Men

When God grabs the heart of a man, lives are changed: When a father makes a decision for Christ, a thousand generations are impacted for good (Deut. 5:10); when a husband falls at the foot of the cross, households are transformed (Acts 16:33); when a wayward son recognizes his need for a Savior, friends and neighbors rejoice (Luke 15:32).

At Cornerstone, there are a number of men who meet for the purposes of accountability, Bible study, friendship, and challenge. If you would like to join a group of men who are interested in growing in the image of God's Son, we encourage you to try one of the Men's Life Groups and watch lives change!

Life Groups for Women

Loving relationships...Mutual accountability...Bible study and application...Praying for one another...Serving together. We believe that when these components are integrated into the life of a group, spiritual growth occurs and we become more like Christ when we think (Phil. 2:5), when we speak (Col 3:16), and when we act (Col 3:17).

Life Groups for Men & Women & for Families

We have several groups that are for both men and women, singles, couples, empty nesters, and young families.

Children's Sunday School - What to Expect

The Children's Ministry at Cornerstone Church offers a nursery and Children's Sunday School during both of our services for toddlers and school age children K-6th grade.

REGISTRATION - Register your children at the table centrally located in the main hallway. Each child will receive a band with a removable, corresponding tab for the parent. For infants and toddles placing the band around their ankle is often more acceptable. Keep the removable tab as the last three digits on the tab will be illuminated on the screen in the sanctuary if you are needed during the service.

SECURITY - Our volunteers will ask to see the tab from the band as it is required to pick up you child from any of the classrooms. All our volunteers are required to submit an application and background check before serving in the ministry.

WELLNESS POLICY - To ensure the health of infants and volunteers, we ask that sick children do not attend the nursery.

INFANTS TO 24 MONTHS

MOTHER/BABY ROOM

A mother/ baby room is available for nursing mothers and infants just outside the middle doors of the sanctuary. You will be able to see and hear the service, but with the privacy mothers may need.

NURSERY

We strive to make our nursery an inviting and safe place for our infants and toddlers. Parents can be assured that our volunteers are there to minister to little ones allowing parents to participate in the adult worship service.

PRESCHOOL

Our early childhood classes start at age 2 and children continue until they enter kindergarten. The classes are kept to 10-12 students with two volunteers (usually one adult and one youth) in every class.

We want every child to learn three foundational truths in their preschool years:God loves me.God made me.Jesus is my friend forever.

These truths are taught through weekly activities, centers, conversations, music and Bible story time.

ELEMENTARY

Kindergartners - 6th graders meet with their small group leader for a time to meet with friends and are introduced to the Bible lesson for the day. All elementary students then come together to worship the Lord through music and creative Bible teaching. Finally, students return to their small groups for application of the Bible story, memory verses, and prayer.

We want all our kids to learn three foundational truths during their elementary years:

I can trust God no matter what

I need to make the wise choice

Treat others the way I want to be treated

Baptism - What to Expect

"But when they believed Philip as he preached the Good News... and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." Acts 8:12

As soon as you have decided to receive Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized. We do baptisms once a month or as people approach the church with the request to pronounce their faith to the church body. If you have more questions about baptism or would like to be baptized please call the church office and ask to speak to one of our pastors or send an e-mail to the church office at ccoffice@gci.net and a pastor will contact you.

Dedication of Children

At Cornerstone we wait until our children are old enough to understand their need of repentance and how Jesus can forgive them of sin before we baptize them. We do encourage parent to participate in a Child Dedication in which the parents being their child before God and the church and make a public commitment to raising them according to God’s Word. The pastor will then lead the church in prayer for God's blessing upon the family and ask God to fulfill His will in the child's life. If you would like to schedule a Child Dedication, please call the church office at 349-8442.

Vespers provides the richest context for helping individual experience life transformations and for helping to develop a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ and others while connecting to the church by creating Biblical community. J.C. said, "And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there". While on earth, Jesus utilized small groups, first with the 12 disciples and then the more intimate group with Peter, James, and John for accountability and meeting the needs of thousands.

Vespers finds their origin in the Bible, the success of the early church was dependent upon small group discipleship (Acts 2:42-46), we are simply implementing a proven model for successful discipleship. The name Vespers derives from the Latin meaning, "a late afternoon or evening religious service, usually a call to prayer."We challenge and invite you to prayerfully and diligently consider this growth opportunity if you're a young single adult, we guarantee your life will never be the same.

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. ~ 1 Peter 4:10 At Cornerstone we have numerous opportunities to serve. Serving is just one of the ways we can express our love and thanks for all the things God has done for us and it is a great way to meet people and become connected with others who share your same interests. Serving will also make your church feel like a place you belong, a part of a family. And finally, by serving, we will find ourselves changing to become more Christ-like.If you have a heart for God and a willingness to serve in any of our ministries we would love to get you involved!
Look through the ministries and brief descriptions listed below, then complete our Ministry Interest Form and our Administrative Pastor Scott Ross or one of the Ministry Leaders will get in touch with you.
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.

We want to leverage the 40 to impact the 3,000.

One of the primary ways we do this is by creating opportunities for shared experience with children and parents. Whether it is the children's Wild Fire program, a mid-week student program, or one of the family events, each is evaluated for its potential to transform the family for Christ.

You did it. You just took the first step in discovering who we are, who God is, and how the three of us can connect together in this thing called life. Before you begin searching our site, please know that you and your family deserve much more time and focus than a simple website can provide. You're not just another person visiting our site, your life matters. We want to honor your time and inquiries. It's our continued attempt to provide you with the valuable information you need so that you and your family will be well informed about the ministry here at Cornerstone. It is our primary goal to introduce you to God. After all, that's the whole point. You will also notice, we believe in the power of walking life together (you, us, and God). Life is much more enjoyable when you are encouraged by others. We invite you to do something radical and significant; step inside one of Alaska's relevant, transformational churches and let us be the first to (electronically) say... "Welcome to Cornerstone."

OUR BELIEFS - Our Beliefs

We believe in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ His only Son. We believe in the virgin birth. We believe that Christ was crucified and buried, and on the third day He rose from the dead. We believe He ascended into heaven, and sits at God's right hand, and from this position He shall come to judge all people. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection of the body. We believe in His Word, that it is both perfect and without error, the final authority on all matters of faith and practice.

1. We Believe in the Bible
The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, composed of 66 books of the Old and New Testament. We believe that Scripture in its entirety originated with God and reflects the backgrounds, styles and vocabularies of the human authors. We hold that the Scriptures are infallible and inerrant in the original manuscripts. They have the unique, full and final authority on all matters of faith and practice and there are no other writings similarly inspired by God.

Proverbs 30:56; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17

2. God
We believe that there is one true, Holy God, eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality. In the beginning God created out of nothing the world and all the things therein; thus manifesting the glory of His power, wisdom and goodness. By His sovereign rule, He is operating throughout history to fulfill His redemptive plan.

Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 139:7-8; Isaiah 45:3-7; Matthew 28:19; Acts 17:24; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Mark 1:9-11; John 1:1

3. Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who took the very nature of a servant and was made in human likeness by a miraculous conception and virgin birth. He lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father and voluntarily atoned for the sins of the human race by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice an accomplishing justification for all who trust in Him alone. Rising to life after three days, He conquered death and appeared over a period of 40 days to his followers. He ascended into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He continually makes intercession for His own. He shall come again to earth, personally and visibly, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

John 1:13, 18, 29; Psalm 2:7; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; 1 John 1:3; Hebrews 1:8-9; Philippians 2:7-8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6

4. The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, was sent into our world on the Day of Pentecost following the Ascension of Jesus. He is always present and active, enlightening the minds of sinners to understand their need of a Savior and regenerating those who repent and believe in Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives assurance, strength and wisdom to every believer and uniquely endows each one with gifts for ministry. By faith and a fully surrendered life, the Holy Spirit fills the life of the believer with power over sin and in witness, evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit.

Genesis 1:2; Matthew 1:18; John 3:5-7; 2 Peter 1:20-27; Ephesians 5:18; 2 Thessalonians 2:13

5. Salvation
The central purpose of God's revelation in Scripture is to call people into fellowship with Himself. Originally created to have fellowship with God, man defied God, choosing to go his independent way, and was thus alienated from God because of sin and suffered the corruption of his nature. The salvation of mankind is wholly a work of God's free grace, not the result, in whole or in part of human works of goodness, and must be personally appropriated by repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue performing it until the day of its full consummation as that heart submits to Him.

Jonah 2:9; Isaiah 53:6,10,11; John 10:27-29; Romans 3:24; Romans 5:8-9; Romans 8:38-39; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, 21; Galatians 2:16; 2 Peter 1:3; Ephesians 1:4-7; 1 John 4:10; Philippians 1:6

6. The Church
The result of union with Jesus Christ is that all believers become members of His body, the church, the Family of God. There is one true church universal, comprised of all those who are trusting in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Scripture commands believers to gather together and devote themselves to worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, observance of Baptism and Communion as the sacramental ordinances established by Jesus Christ, fellowship, service to the body and outreach to the world. Under the leadership of pastors, who are given the responsibility to equip God's people for ministry, all believers are called and gifted to fulfill Jesus' Great Commission. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:18-20).

Matthew 18:18; Acts 1:4-5; Acts 2:46-47; Acts 11:15; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 1:22-23; Luke 22:19

7. The Christian Life
The essential accompaniment of a genuine saving relationship with Jesus Christ is a life of holiness and obedience, attained by believers as they submit to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Scripture in all areas of daily life. He makes it possible for believers to lead a life of Christ-like character and bear fruit to the glory of the Father. It is God's will for us to live godly lives, positive and prosperous. Success is being the best I can be for the Glory of God. The greatest pursuit of life is to love the one true God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength and our neighbor as ourselves.

3 John 1:2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 2:10; Ephesians 5:17-20; Philippians 2:12-13; Colossians 3:16, 24; 2 Peter 1:4-11; Matthew 22:34-40

8. Eternal Destiny
Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. For all mankind, there will be a resurrection of the body into the spiritual world, and a judgment given by Jesus Christ that will determine the fate of each individual.
